To elderly folk like Old Yu, Valentine’s Day simply didn’t exist. In comparison to Valentine’s Day on the 14th, he was only wholeheartedly concerned with Yuanxiao Festival[1] on the 15th.
According to custom in Old Yu’s family, the day before a holiday, they would give the younger family members a call, thus confirming whether or not they were busy, whether or not they would come home.
Therefore, today in the morning, Old Yu video called his nephew.
When he answered the video, You Huo had just finished washing up, his half-lowered eyelids carrying a hint of sleepiness. He opened the window curtains, squinting, and hummed a “hn” towards the other person on the call, indicating that his internet connection was smooth.
Old Yu was first stunned: “You’re at home? You’re already on break today?”
You Huo: “Yes, I adjusted my time off.”
Old Yu was bewildered: “But isn’t Yuanxiao Festival tomorrow?”
You Huo: “…”
You Huo: “I’m taking a break early.”
Old Yu met this with eager excitement: “Then you guys might as well come over today, I’ll go buy some groceries!”
You Huo: “That’s okay, we’ll come tomorrow.”
Old Yu said: “Then what about today? You can’t take off for nothing!”

The Head Invigilator had always been straightforward; he originally wanted to directly tell him, but was prevented by the fact that Old Yu was getting older and older, and older people couldn’t stand emotional stimulation. But Old Yu didn’t have a chance to flip through a calendar—

Qin Jiu turned his head and smiled at the video call, dragging out his tone: “Uncle, we’ll go celebrate with you tomorrow.”
With a click from the other side of the phone, the uncle disappeared.
[1] Chinese Lantern Festival, a holiday celebrated by eating tangyuan/yuanxiao, a sticky rice dessert. It falls on 2-15 in 2022.
